The HLTAID014 unit, “Provide Advanced First Aid,” is designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response. Here are the key points:
- Course Objective: To teach the skills and knowledge needed to provide an advanced first aid response, including managing the incident and other first aiders until medical assistance arrives.
- Course Structure: Includes both online pre-course learning and practical, in-class training.
- Training Provider: Delivered by various registered training organizations (RTOs) in Australia.
- Performance Evidence: Candidates must demonstrate their ability to complete tasks such as:
- Performing CPR on adult and infant manikins.
- Managing unconscious breathing casualties.
- Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
- Responding to simulated first aid scenarios.
- First Aid Procedures: Candidates will learn to manage various situations, including:
- Allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
- Bleeding control and choking.
- Envenomation, fractures, and head injuries.
- Respiratory distress, seizures, and shock.
- Knowledge Evidence: Candidates must understand:
- State/Territory regulations and first aid codes of practice.
- Safe work practices and infection control procedures.
- Legal and workplace considerations, including duty of care and consent.
- Specific considerations for providing advanced first aid.
- Certification: Successful completion of the course provides a nationally recognised certification, valid for 3 years
