This course provides in-depth knowledge and hands-on training for managing asthma in various workplace and community settings. Participants will learn:

  • Understanding asthma – causes, triggers, and symptoms.
  • Recognizing asthma attacks – identifying early warning signs and assessing severity.
  • Administering asthma medication – using different delivery devices such as:
      • Metered-dose inhalers (MDIs)
      • Spacers
      • Nebulizers
  • Developing asthma action plans – ensuring workplaces and schools have proper emergency management strategies in place.
  • Emergency response techniques – supporting individuals with breathing difficulties until professional medical help arrives.

22578VIC – Anaphylaxis First Aid Training

Anaphylaxis is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that requires immediate treatment. This course teaches participants how to:

  • Identify common allergens – such as food, insect stings, and medication.
  • Recognize anaphylaxis symptoms – including breathing difficulties, swelling, and loss of consciousness.
  • Administer adrenaline safely – using auto-injectors like EpiPen® and Anapen®.
  • Implement anaphylaxis management plans – ensuring workplaces and schools are prepared for emergencies.
  • Follow emergency response procedures – acting quickly to prevent severe complications or fatalities.

Assessment Activities

To successfully complete the course, participants must demonstrate competency in both practical and theoretical assessments, including:

  • Administer asthma medication (with a spacer)
  • Administer asthma medication (without a spacer)
  • Administer an adrenaline auto-injector for anaphylaxis
  • Provide first aid for an allergic reaction and anaphylaxis
